Welcome Message

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at West Creek Academy! We would like to welcome you and your children to West Creek Academy, a Gold Ribbon School. Everyone at West Creek Academy has made a commitment to provide the best educational program possible for our students. We are dedicated to ensuring that our school provides a welcoming, stimulating learning environment where students are actively involved in learning academics as well as positive character values. Our teachers are highly qualified and fully credentialed by the State of California. As educators we constantly strive for excellence. We are committed to providing our students with a challenging academic program aligned to the Common Core California State Standards that enable all students to achieve their fullest potential. At West Creek our staff and students participate in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) where behavior expectations are explicitly taught with an emphasis on our students being Honest Optimistic Willing Leaders, and being safe, respectful and responsible. We also encourage our students to learn and follow the Six Pillars of Character: Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility and Trustworthiness. We are confident that our students will gain the skills, attitudes, and understanding necessary to be successful 21st Century citizens.
The education programs at West Creek Academy are designed to meet the needs of each individual student, and ultimately each individual student's efforts will be part of their educational growth as well. To increase the degree of educational success, it is important that teachers, parents and administrators communicate openly and regularly about the progress of students. Parents are encouraged to become involved in their child's learning environment by attending school events, serving on a school and PTA committee, and helping out in the classroom or library.
Our staff and students embrace the "growth mindset" by demonstrating perseverance and "GRIT." The growth mindset, developed by psychologist Carol Dweck, embraces that abilities can by developed through dedication and hard work. Challenges and failures are not viewed as a negative, but rather as opportunities to improve both skills and learning. James Nottingham developed the Learning Pit, which is a way for students to inquire and learning through challenges as they develop a deeper understanding and clarity in what they are learning.
One focus at WCA includes "Building our West Creek Academy Story" to make an impact. This coincides with John Hattie's research abut which influences have the biggest impact on students and their academic growth. We tie it into the impact each one of us can have on others and our school community and together that will build our West Creek Academy Story. Our school slightly adjusted our quote from last year for this upcoming school year.
Our Life Has a Purpose
Our Story is Important
Our Dreams Count
Our Voice Matters
We were Born to make an Impact
We look forward to continuing to learn the stories of our students, staff, and parents, while discovering, embracing, and encouraging their dreams, and making every day special for our students and school community at West Creek Academy.
With our academic standards - including music and the arts - PBIS, as well as STEAM and a Growth Mindset, we aim to build a sound academic and social foundation needed for our students to be lifelong learners and succeed in accomplishing their dreams today and in their future.
